Heavy rains that lasted through the morning left the home of this year's state championships a muddy mess on Saturday for the Franklin County Invitiational. Still, we learned plenty about the course, about the toughness of a pair of Shelby County runners, and even a couple of surprise teams surfaced in the smaller classes.

There are only a few Saturdays of the entire cross-country season that have that combination of great weather, great competition, and a fast course. Today was one of those days at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park and we may have seen times today that forecast what could be ahead for those athletes that show well at the state meet and those that will race beyond the state championships.
