What to Know About Every KHSAA Class 2A Region Meet in 2022

BOYS

The top challengers:

1. Connor Ramey. He finished second in last year's regional with a time of 18:41.80, still his PR. Ramey, a junior at Pike County Central, also has the only sub-19 minute time in the region this season (18:46.40).

2. Aiden Mynhier. Per his profile, the Lawrence County freshman has competed only once this season, running second at the Paintsville All Comers on Sept. 27 (21:21.06). His best time came in last year's regional, when he ran 19:05.23 to finish third.

3. Eli King. The Powell County freshman is coming off the best race of his career, finishing the East Carter Invitational in 19:38.15. He was fractions away from a top-five finish last season, just edged by Perry County Central's Kyler Witt (19:46.07 to 19:46.78).

Fast facts: Only 46 runners are entered in this meet, making it the smallest field across all three classes in Kentucky. ... Pike County Central eighth-grader Grant Hall posted a 19:23.56 in the East Carter Last Chance meet on Oct. 13. That's the second fastest time in the region this year.

GIRLS

The top challengers:

1. Amelia Barnes. She won this meet as an eighth-grader with a time of 20:55.80, which remains her best. In three races this season, she's averaged a time of 24:22.65. Her 22:14.78 in the East Carter Invitational earlier this month is the second fastest time in the region this season.

2. Lauren Morris. The Perry County Central junior has won the only two races in which she's competed this season, both earlier this month. Her PR, 21:12.73, came in the 2019 KHSAA State Championships a week after she won a second straight region title.

3. Ashley Bailey. Her seed time (21:18.39) is actually the best time in the region this fall, and by nearly a minute. The Powell County senior has finished in the top five of the last three Region 7 championships.

Fast facts: Look for Letcher County Central to repeat as the team champ; the Cougars have entered four of the top five scorers from their winning team last season - Heather Crawford (24:01.81), Chloe Wampler (24:13.50), Anna Hatton (24:20.72) and Isabella Swanson (27:23.10).
