Note: Athletes who have been nominated in the past two weeks are not eligible. Previous winners are excluded for the rest of the season.
This Week's Nominees:
Hunter Stevens, Harlan County (Kentucky): Threw 71-5.75 to win the shot put at the Class 2A Region 7 meet, topping a field of 18 throwers. The mark ranks him as the #1 sophomore in Kentucky in the shot put.
Byron Rayfield, Holmes (Kentucky): Won the long jump at Class 2A Region 4 with a leap of 25-8.5, beating 16 other competitors in the event.
Mitchell Staples, Meade County (Kentucky): Cleared 6-10 to capture the high jump title at Class 2A Region 2, defeating a field of 18 jumpers. He ranks as the #2 junior in the state in the high jump.
Paul Van Laningham, Cooper (Kentucky): Swept the distance events at Class 3A Region 5, winning the 1600m in 4:10.07, the 800m in 1:54.03, and the 3200m in 9:19.02. His 1600m time topped the week's field while his 800m and 3200m marks ranked third among the week's competitors.
Nehemiah Kiser, Male (Kentucky): Clocked 1:53.20 to win the 800m at Class 3A Region 3, outrunning 19 other competitors for the fastest time of the week in the event. The performance establishes him as the top sophomore in Kentucky in the 800m.
