What to Know About Every KHSAA Class 1A Region Meet in 2022

BOYS

The top challengers:

1. Alex Coleman. The Williamsburg senior has been a top-five finisher here each of the last two seasons, including runner-up last year, and ran the fastest time in the region two weekends ago at the Daviess County Classic (17:51.09).

2. Keiton Anderson. He PR'd with an 18:17.72 at the Cougar Prowl Invitational on Oct. 8. The Jackson County senior before that had only ran a sub-19 minute time once before (on Sept. 24).

3. Malachi Shannon. Another Jackson County contender, though in eighth grade, he has competed in seven varsity races and enters with a seed time (18:51.49) comparable to his average over the last five races (19:16.4).

Fast facts: Nick Baird, also a senior at Williamsburg, is officially seeded eighth with a time of 19:09.09 but ran 18:13.39 at this year's Daviess County Classic. ... Williamsburg individuals accounted for five of the top six times in the region this season.

GIRLS

The top challengers:

1. Isabelle Shearer. The Jackson County sophomore has placed in the top five in all six races she's entered this season and is seeking her first region title. Her PR time at the Cougar Prowl Invitational on Oct. 8 (19:33.31) is the fourth fastest time in Class A this fall.

2. Abby Mabe. She won last year's event, finishing about 53 seconds ahead of Shearer. The Lynn Camp senior is seeded second with a 19:57.05, earned at this year's Daviess County Classic.

3. Weslyn McIntosh. Her PR time, a 20:52.17 at this year's Lynn Camp Invitational, is more than a minute faster than what the Lee County senior ran to finish third in this meet a year ago. 

Fast fact: Lynn Camp project as the team favorite with four of the top 10 seeded entrants and six of the top 12.
