Greatest Individual XC season in Kentucky History?

Did we just watch the greatest Individual XC Season in KY History?

Fresh off two Top 10 National Championship Performances, Paul Van Laningham has just put the bow on top of a truly historic individual season. Not only did the Wisconsin commit finish in the Top 10 at both major National Championship meets, he also obliterated the State Cross Country record this season and set course records at pretty much every state course he ran on. He won 6 of his 10 races going undefeated on Kentucky Soil and won the prestigious Nike Town Twilight Championship at Lavern Gibson. After witnessing his unmatched domination across Kentucky this season, it begs the question: Did Paul just complete the best cross country season the State has ever seen?

To set the stage, when comparing the greatest XC seasons in KY, a few criteria applied. First, you had to have won a State Championship. Second, you had to have raced at least one National Championship race. Third, you had to have some data in Milesplit. My apologies to any legendary athlete that I missed, but the records available to me only go back so far. With that said, I give you the best individual KY XC seasons in chronological order.

When it comes to the best season ever, who do you think takes it? Is it Paul Van Laningham who has the fastest season average ever and had the courage to race out of state as often as he raced in state? Is it the trailblazer Joe Buechler, who was the first KY high schooler to break 15 minutes on grass? Is it Michael Eaton who has run the fastest time on grass in state history and won the Foot Locker Regional Championship?

Let us know who you think it was below!
