Region 3

Site (host): Goshen (North Oldham)

BOYS

The top challengers:

1. Roman Sierpina. The Louisville Collegiate sophomore has the fastest time in Class A this season (16:18.18) but will run for just the third time in 2022. He finished second here last fall.

2. Josiah Claunch. His PR (16:32.89) came more than a year ago; he's neared that time twice in 2022, most recently at the Haunted Woods Classic on Oct. 8 (17:01.56).

3. Clayton Nau. Last year's meet champion has a slightly better in-season time (16:48.80) than Claunch, a fellow junior at Highlands Latin.

Fast facts: Asher Bitner, also of Highlands Latin, finished third a year ago (18:00.49) and is seeded seventh. ... Luke Hamilton (Highlands Latin), James Gurley (Louisville Collegiate) and Ryan Shaps (Kentucky Country Day) all enter with sub-17 minute seed times.

GIRLS

The top challengers:

1. Haley Schoenegge. The Kentucky Country Day senior has the second best time in Class A this season. Her 19:19.00 at the Louisville XC Classic is more than a minute faster than the next-best seed time and the next-best time by any other individual in the region this year.

2. Taylor Morris. A freshman at Brown, her seed time (20:39.08) came as a seventh-grader in this meet (she finished second). Morris has no times from this year entered on Milesplit.

3. Maddox Miller. Schoenegge's teammate at KCD boasts the second best time in the region this season (20:49.57).

Fast fact: Schoenegge won this meet in 2020 and finished second last year to a non-KHSAA senior.
