What to Know About Every KHSAA Class 2A Region Meet in 2022

Region 3

Site (host): Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve (North Oldham)

BOYS

The top challengers:

1. Adam Patel. The top returning finisher from last year's region meet (third) has the third fastest time across Class 2A this season (15:35.12). The junior should represent host North Oldham well on Saturday.

2. Casey DeSilvey. His PR time (15:56.56) isn't accounted for on the seed list, but the Spencer County sophomore is firmly the nearest threat to Patel. He ran closest behind him in last season's meet (17:09.89).

3. Max Young. The lone senior ranked among the top 10 seeds hails from Shelby County. He's been a top 10 finisher in this meet the last three seasons, including a career-best fifth place in 2019, and in late September ran sub-17 minutes for the first time (16:39.82).

Fast facts: North Oldham dominated this meet last season, scoring 19 points with five top-10 finishers. It's not out of the question for the Mustangs, who boast five top-10 seeds, to replicate that effort in 2022.

GIRLS

The top challengers:

1. Emma Wilkins. The Christian Academy-Louisville senior PR'd in 2019 (19:58.20) but is the reigning champion in Region 3, taking last year's meet with a time of 20:37.21. She's competed only twice this season.

2.  Riley Auton. Could North Oldham sweep? The sophomore will try to make that a reality. Her PR came in her most recent race, the Haunted Woods Classic, where she was about a minute and a half faster than Wilkins (19:58.93 to 21:38.68). That effort is the fastest in the region this fall.

3. Brooke Greenwell. CAL's top junior PR'd at last season's Class 2A KHSAA State Championships, finishing ninth among her peers with a 20:07.07. She's hovered near that benchmark in her last two meets, running a season-best 20:12.68 at the Haunted Woods Classic.

Fast facts: CAL and North Oldham combined to place 10 of the top 12 runners in last season's edition, with CAL taking the team trophy. This year, CAL enters with three of the top four seeds but North Oldham has six of the top 10. ... The only outlier among the top 10 seeds is Henry County sophomore Akacia Kurtz, who finished eighth in this meet last year.
