What to Know About Every KHSAA Class 2A Region Meet in 2022

BOYS

The top challengers:

1. Layden Wagoner. A Webster County senior with five top-10 finishes at this meet but no victories, Wagoner owns the fastest time in the region this season and a top-five time in Class 2A (15:50.58, earned at the Daviess County Classic on Oct. 8).

2. Austin Cavanaugh. Three of the best five times in the Trigg County senior's career came in the last month, including a PR (16:10.45) his last time out on Oct. 15. He won the regional last year.

3. Garrett West. Also a senior at Webster County, West ran a career-best 16:18.05 at the Daviess County Classic on Oct. 8. He finished ahead of Wagoner last season.

Fast facts: After Cavanaugh and Calloway County's Daniel Puckett (seeded fourth), Webster County had the next three finishers last year and placed six in the top 13 to edge Trigg County for the team title in 2021. ...Liam Black (Paducah Tilghman) is the only other runner in the region with a sub-17 minute time this season.

GIRLS

The top challengers:

1. Mayci Moore. She neared her first sub-20 minute effort the last time she competed (20:05.53 at the Daviess County Classic on Oct. 8). Moore was one of three middle schoolers who finished in the top six last season.

2. Reese Settle. Region 1's reigning champ won last season's event with a time of 20:31.00, which is her listed seed time. The Calloway County junior ran faster than that each of her last two trips out - 20:27.65 (Daviess County Classic) and 20:14.00 (Calloway v. Murray).

3. Addison Jennings. As a seventh grader, she trailed only Settle last year in this meet. Her times have been a couple minutes slower in 2022.
