Fitting in with the same pattern of the EG Plummer Invitational the Grant County Invitational looks like it is following in the footsteps of the Ryle Invitational.  The question is how will the ACT affect the attendance of some of the top runners.

The Varsity Boys race at Ryle was loaded up front with Daniel Wolfer (St. Henry) winning over Nolan Gerlach (Conner), Brady Baker (Cooper), and Eric Baugh (Villa Madonna) with all of the going under 16:10.  This week at Grant County Gerlach and Baker are back for another nice dual.  The only problem for them is that they traded out Wolfer (#3 in Class A) for Nicholas Laureano (#1 in Class AA.)  The Lexington Catholic senior beat Wolfer at Tiger Run, making him the favorite not to mention he is the defending champion at Grant County with a 15:59.

The team race should be another outstanding one with AAA #8 Cooper being the favorite.  Cooper won over the rest of northern Kentucky at Ryle last week including Class A #1 St. Henry.  Cooper is strong up front with Baker and Zachary Stewart, but has a solid pack at 3-7 within 40 seconds of each other.  They should receive their toughest test from Dixie Heights led by Max McGhee , Highlands (a team that is inexperienced, but grows stronger each week), and Ryle.  There are multiple ranked teams at this meet especially heavy with the Class A schools.

The Varsity Girls race gives Ryle's Jensen Bales (#14 in Class AAA) a chance to go after Byni Dugan of Ludlow (#3 in Class A.)  Dugan beat Bales at Ryle last week by 5 seconds.  Highland's frosh Lauren Ossege (#3 in Class AA) sat out last week and should step back in to remind the ladies she is the best in northern Kentucky.  This should be a great race to watch up front with Sarah Duncan (Lloyd Memorial) and Molly Mearns (Highlands) each also top 12 in Class AA in the mix as well.

The team race is a fight between AAA #10 Ryle and AA #2 Highlands.  Ryle is stronger through five with Highlands having more strength up front.  Each squad has middle school runners in the mix, so it is hard to predict if both teams will be at full strength.  They might run some of their top seven in the middle school race.
