Class 3A Girls State Preview

Class 3A State Meet Preview

With the regular season over, it is a good place to look at how the individual classes stand before the post season begins. This article is going to highlight the top individuals in each Class as well as the top teams. Without further adieu, here is the Class 3A Girls preview.

On the team side of things, it is a battle between two of the states powerhouses: Assumption and Dupont Manual. Last season, with the help of Jessica Secor, Dupont Manual defeated Assumption at the State Championships. However, Reagan Gilmore did not run at the State meet last season and she could've swung things in the favor of Assumption last season. This season, Assumption has looked dominant with 5 girls sub 19 minutes. Not only is their depth strong, but they have one of the State's top individuals in Reagan Gilmore. Gilmore has run 17:24.4 this season and defeated Tula Fawbush at their Region Championships. Dupont Manual also has one of the top runners in the State in Bailee Montgomery. Currently seeded 5th in State, she hasn't finished worse than 6th place in any race this season. She also won the Class 3A Region 3 Championship over the Mooney sisters. Dupont will likely need her to have the best race of her season Saturday if they are to play spoiler to Assumption. Full table below:

On the individual side of things, one individual headlines a loaded field in Woodford County's Sophomore, Addison Moore . Moore is undefeated this season with wins over Gilmore, Fawbush, Montgomery, and Chesney McPherson. Moore also has the fastest Pr in the field with a 17:20. Now, the only potential knock on Moore is her inexperience, especially with a Championship race where Seniors Gilmore, Fawbush, or McPherson could shine,  yet, her ability level is strong and she should be seen as one of if not the favorite to win the State Championship. It will not be easy however as two other girls in the field have ran sub 17:30. Tula Fawbush and Reagan Gilmore were at the top of this list in the preseason and still find themselves there now. The two seniors have been household names for awhile and have looked very good this season. A final name to mention is Chesney McPherson. The Barren County Senior hasn't finished worse than 5th in an in state race this season. She also looks to be peaking at the right time as she ran her fastest time of the season at the Region Championships. Being a Senior, she will absolutely be motivated to play spoiler to Addison Moore as she looks to bring home her first State Championship.
