Class 2A Girls State Meet Preview

2023 Class 2A Girls State Preview

With the regular season over, it is a good place to look at how the individual classes stand before the post season begins. This article is going to highlight the top individuals in the Class as well as the top teams. Without further adieu, here is the Class 2A Girls preview.

On the team side of things, Lexington Catholic should run away with this one with a current projected score of 41 of SBs. In fact, Lexington Catholic defeated State #4 Bourbon County without running Caroline Beiting, one of the top runners in 2A. Lexington Catholic is currently seeded to put 4 girls in the Top 10 and 5 in the Top 20 making them tough to beat. However, the team race for second should be awesome with teams 2-6 only separated by 42 points. Among those are Harlan County and Corbin who pack run beautifully. That is the strength of their teams and it may come down to the 4-5 positions. In 4th place is Bourbon County who have one of the State's top runners in Bethany Simpson. Her projected score of 5 really helps there team hopes, but she is going to need some help if Bourbon County is to compete for the second place trophy. Full table listed below:

On the individual side, we are in for a classic as at least 7 girls have a chance to win it. Seeded first off Season Best, however, is Larue County's Isabella Day. her 18:31 came at the Mid-Kentucky Athletic Conference Championships where she defeated Thomas Nelson's Baili Hoten. Now, Hoten won Region 2 Class 2A last weekend defeating Day and running a personal best 18:55. She will no doubt threaten Day at the State meet. Then, Lexington Catholic has 3 girls seed in the top 7 with the aforementioned Caroline Beiting, Anna Dawahare, and Cate Conklin. All 3 have run under 19:10 and should be able to help each throughout the race. Rounding out the contenders is Bourbon County's Bethany Simpson and Rowan County's Autumn Egleston. Both have run sub 19 this season and should be there until the very end. Full table below:
