KY Highlights from the Great American Cross Country Festival (Thomson and Brown in the lead pack)

  A few of Kentucky’s best runners will compete tomorrow at the Great American Cross Country Festival in North Carolina.  Annually it is one of the top meets in the nation attracting many of the best.  Kentucky is well represented by two teams each ranked #1 in the current KYtrackXC.com Power 10 All-Class Rankings and 3 Individual Class #1’s. (AAA #1 Assumption with Coach Joe Newton of York (IL))

  KYtrackXC.com Power 10 – September 30, 2011 These are the top best teams and individuals in the state of Kentucky regardless of school classification. These are not your typical rankings in the sense because without classes the KY State Meet would have more depth so a team’s 5th place runner in Class AA who normally scores well enough with a 18:00 is suddenly too far back to matter in a one class system.  The need for top runner is similar, that is obvious it is just on an exaggerated scale.

  The first full week of cross country is in the bag for the state of Kentucky and it was a pretty solid start.  Below are 16 observations from the week: (photo's by louisvillecatholicsports.com)

  Friday night marks the date for the 2nd Annual Kentucky Dream Mile being held at St. Xavier High School in Louisville.  The best of the best distance runners will be in attendance trying to throw down new best times in the premier distance event.  The event is unusual in the aspect that it is only two races, one girls mile and one boys mile.  Even with the small line-up of races, the crowd will be excited and the energy of a cross country meet will be in the air (weird feeling for May.) 

The final cut for the Kentucky Dream Mile being held this Friday at St. Xavier in Louisville.
