The second full weekend of the 2026 Kentucky cross country season delivered another wave of impressive performances, with several of the state's established stars continuing to show their strength while a number of younger runners made major early season statements.
From Saturday Night Lights to Hermitage Farm and across the state line at the Crawford County Kickoff and Moeller Primetime, Kentucky athletes were all over the leaderboard.
Here is a look at some of the top performances from the weekend.
Abigail Turner and Anna Dawahare Continue Lexington Catholic's Strong Start
Lexington Catholic's Abigail Turner and Anna Dawahare once again showed why they make up one of the best one two combinations in Kentucky.
Turner finished third at Saturday Night Lights in 18:28.20, while Dawahare followed in fourth at 18:40.60. The two juniors were separated by just over 12 seconds while finishing near the front of one of the state's biggest early season races.
For Turner, the performance was another significant step forward. Her 18:28.20 was faster than her performance at last fall's state championship and immediately established her as one of Kentucky's top runners heading into September. Dawahare was not far behind, and her 18:40.60 continued the progression she has made since emerging as one of Lexington Catholic's key runners during the 2025 season.
The Knights once again have a powerful front end.
Celia Maudlin Delivers a Big Runner Up Finish for duPont Manual
One of the most impressive performances of the weekend came from duPont Manual sophomore Celia Maudlin.
Maudlin finished second at the Crawford County Kickoff Invitational in 18:51.40, putting together one of the fastest performances of the weekend by a Kentucky athlete. She finished behind only Heritage Hills' Kylee Waninger, who won in 18:48.40.
Her performance also helped duPont Manual to a third place team finish with 82 points.
The Crimsons finished behind Floyd Central and Columbus North, with Maudlin's runner up finish providing a major low score at the front. Manual also received scoring performances from runners finishing 15th, 18th, 20th and 27th, demonstrating the depth behind its standout sophomore.
For Maudlin, the result was an enormous early season statement. As a member of the Class of 2029, she is already competing at a level that places her among the state's best runners regardless of grade. And for Manual, the combination of an elite front runner and solid supporting depth makes the Crimsons a team worth watching as the season develops.
Stella Carpenter Breaks 19 Minutes at Saturday Night Lights
Ryle junior Stella Carpenter joined the growing list of Kentucky athletes under 19 minutes with an impressive 18:59.80 performance at Saturday Night Lights.
Carpenter finished eighth overall and produced one of the biggest performances of the weekend.
She already established herself as one of the state's promising young runners during her freshman season, and Saturday's race showed that she is ready to take another significant step forward in 2026. Breaking 19 minutes this early in the season is particularly encouraging and puts her firmly in the conversation among Kentucky's top juniors.
Carpenter's development also gives Ryle an increasingly dangerous front runner.
Sophia Anderson Opens With a Victory at Hermitage Farm
Henry Clay's Sophia Anderson came away with one of the weekend's biggest victories.
Anderson won the Hermitage Farm XC Classic in 19:03.00, leading a strong Kentucky field that included several athletes already capable of competing near the front of major invitationals.
The victory was another important result for Anderson, who entered the season with an 18:33.71 personal best. While Saturday's race was not about chasing a career best, Anderson's ability to come away with the win was an encouraging sign for one of the state's top returning runners.
Elizabeth Mathews Stays Close to the Front at Hermitage Farm
Walden's Elizabeth Mathews was right behind Anderson in one of the strongest head to head matchups of the weekend.
Mathews finished second at the Hermitage Farm XC Classic in 19:08.00, just five seconds behind Anderson.
The performance continued a strong progression for the senior, who already owns an 18:57.40 personal best. Saturday's result showed that Mathews is already operating close to that level early in the 2026 season.
Linden Pickler Leads Fort Campbell to the Team Title
Fort Campbell junior Linden Pickler delivered one of the most complete performances of the weekend.
Pickler won the Madisonville Classic in 19:25.91, earning the individual title while helping Fort Campbell capture the girls' team championship.
The Falcons scored 44 points to win the meet, finishing ahead of Graves County and Webster County.
Pickler's individual victory was the centerpiece of a strong overall team performance. Fort Campbell placed four runners inside the top eight, demonstrating that the Falcons' success was about much more than one standout athlete.
Maggie Durrett Continues to Emerge for Notre Dame
Notre Dame junior Maggie Durrett turned in another strong performance at Saturday Night Lights, finishing 13th overall in 19:29.10.
Durrett has continued to develop into one of Northern Kentucky's top runners, and Saturday's performance placed her among the fastest Kentucky athletes of the weekend.
Her ability to break 19:30 this early in the season is particularly encouraging. Durrett was already an important contributor for Notre Dame during her previous seasons, and another step forward in 2026 could make her one of the more important juniors in the state.
Lila Dunlevy Takes the Win at Moeller Primetime
Campbell County's Lila Dunlevy traveled into Ohio and came home with an individual victory.
The sophomore won the HS Moeller Primetime Invitational in 19:42.80, giving her one of the weekend's most notable victories by a Kentucky athlete.
Dunlevy has already demonstrated strong range as a runner, including quality performances on the track, and her cross country victory provides another encouraging sign for her development.
Diana Nava Opens Strong at Hermitage Farm
Oldham County's Diana Nava completed an impressive top three at the Hermitage Farm XC Classic.
The senior finished third overall in 19:50.00, joining Anderson and Mathews at the front of one of the weekend's strongest Kentucky races.
Nava entered the season with an 18:39.08 cross country personal best and also enjoyed an excellent 2026 track season. Her combination of cross country strength and track speed gives her the potential to continue dropping time as the season progresses.
While Saturday's performance was not a personal best, finishing third in a talented field was an important early season result.
