Early Season Rankings: Top KY Boys Teams for All Classes

As the 2026 outdoor track and field season begins to take shape, an early look at the statewide leaderboard, combining Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A, reveals a clear picture of which boys programs are setting the tone. With a mix of distance, sprint, and field events, several teams have already separated themselves as contenders for championship season.

Trinity

Leading the way is Trinity, piling up 55 points behind one of the most complete distance squads in the state. The Shamrocks are overwhelming in the distance events, with Drew Koon (11 points), Ben Cebe (8), Cody Seymour (3), and Aidan Albritton (2) all contributing in the 3200m. Now, we know that only two can run at state, but with the season being early, this displays the depth of the Trinity squad. Meanwhile, Ayden Taylor and Sullivan Yaden add depth in the 1600m and 800m.

Trinity is also strong in the relays, scoring 15 combined points in the 4x400m and 4x800m. Add in contributions from Andrew Haskins in the 400m and Jake Hagan in the 800m, and Trinity's balance across distance and relays makes them the early team to beat regardless of class. It will be interesting to see if they can add in some sprinters or field event athletes to complement the distance strength.

Fern Creek

Fern Creek sits second with 44 points. Riley Burton is one of the top hurdlers in the state, sweeping major points in both the 110m and 300m hurdles (18 total). Ibrahim Soumare adds another 15 points between hurdles and the triple jump, while Kyeshon Young provides sprint points in the 100m and 200m.

Fern Creek may not have the same depth as Trinity, but their high-end scorers make them a dangerous postseason team.

St. Xavier

St. Xavier (43.5 points) is right in the mix thanks to contributions from a variety of areas on the track. Nick Sanders leads the way with 18 points across the 800m and 1600m, while Donovan Washer adds hurdle points.

The Tigers' biggest strength, however, lies in their relays. With 18 combined points from the 4x400m and 4x800m, St. Xavier has points in places that will bode well when we reach the University of Kentucky track and field complex in May. Field event points from Will Rogers in the pole vault give additional points to work towards a team title.

Male

Male (42 points) has a combination of sprinters, field events, and relays to give diversity to their point scoring. Nehemiah Kiser is currently scoring in both the 200m and 800m, while Sean Anderson dominates the horizontal jumps with 18 points between the long jump and triple jump.

The Bulldogs are especially dangerous in relays, leading the state in the 4x200m and adding strong marks in the 4x400m and 4x800m.

The Rest of the Top 10 - PRP, Fairdale, Mercer County, Oldham County, Henderson County, and South Oldham

Pleasure Ridge Park (37.5 points) leans heavily on sprinting and relays. Kevondre Ballard leads their individual efforts, while the Panthers' 4x100m relay sits at the top of the leaderboard. Combined with solid hurdle performances, PRP is firmly in the contender tier.

Fairdale (31 points) is powered by one of the top hurdlers in the state, Kabilan Murugesu, who accounts for 18 points alone. Add in contributions from Tre Smith in the jumps and a strong 4x100m relay, and Fairdale has some top talent in specific events that will be a difference maker in the season.

Mercer County (26 points) stands out for its throws and relay combination. Noah Nichols delivers a huge 15 points in discus and shot put, while the Titans add relay and triple jump points to stay competitive.

Oldham County (25 points) is another balanced squad, scoring across relays, sprints, and pole vault. Their relay consistency, particularly in the 4x400m and 4x800m, keeps them firmly in the top 10.

Rounding out the top 10 are Henderson County (24.5) and South Oldham (23.5), both showing strong relay performances and key individual scorers. Henderson County's relay trio is especially impressive, while South Oldham is boosted by Kolade Dada's 400m performance and contributions in the high jump.
