Top Rising Female Stars in Kentucky: Moughamian & Huang

The cross country season is reaching the half way point and the underclassmen have been making some waves. Let's highlight a couple of them.

The rankings have had a facelift since the last time we did an article in this series. Kennedy Moughamian of Lexington Christian shot up to the top with her 17:53.23 at the Bourbon County Colonel Charge. If we are comparing courses, her 18:04 at the Central Kentucky Run for the Gold time on a fast course was impressive, but the time at Bourbon County is even more so on a tough course. A little context there, she ran a 19:40 at Bourbon County last season, which shows a 1:47 improvement year over year. This young lady is poised for a run at the Class 1A state title...as a sophomore!

Millie Huang of North Oldham threw down a 18:09 at the Central Kentucky Run for the Gold (see my previous comment about that course) and then followed it with a 19:05 at Rumble Through the Jungle on a much tougher course. Trinity/Valkyrie was a blip on the radar for a runner that has the potential to be a top 10 finisher at the Class 3A State Championships. She is in a program that will help her grow under the tutelage of Brian Crumbo and has shown that they can (and will) be a force in Class 3A after being in Class 2A for years.
