CLASS AAA 4x800m RELAY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

This was a race for the ages when it comes to the 4x800m Relay in Kentucky.  Coming into the race it was clear Butler and St. Xavier were two of the favorites to win it all with the possibility of going under the 8:00 minute barrier to do so.  Only six schools in Kentucky had run under that mark EVER.  The race was tight with Butler, St. Xavier, and Greenwood all having shot down to the last 400 meters.  Butler crossed the line running a 7:53.98 with St. Xavier second in 7:56.93.  Both teams surpassed the Overall State Record of 7:57.02.  After the race, Butler was disqualified for interference, and St. Xavier took home the title and record.  All issues aside, this was a great race which took Kentucky to a place it had never been before.  Each team returns three of the four relay members.  Both of these squads should be proud of the race and their achievement.

OWENSBORO AREA THROWERS DOMINATE THE STATE

The city of Owensboro and the surrounding area in Daviess County are normally thought of as a distance runners haven, but not in 2009 it was a throwing area.  Amashi Kendall of Owensboro High School and Cameron Frazier of Daviess County High School each pulled off the double throw championship winning the Class AAA Shot Put and Discus titles at the Kentucky State Track Meet.  Both were unstoppable all year long not losing any meets to Kentucky foes.

Kendall threw a modern day All-time #1 of 44-07.50 at the Region 1 AAA Championship on May 16th.  She had a best of 137-08 in the Discus for the year.  She won both the Shot Put and Discus her sophomore and junior year to go along with her senior year.  Frazier threw best of 59-02 in the Shot Put and 174-08 in the Discus.  He also won the Shot Put Class AAA title his junior year.  The Owensboro area also had Harris Bivin of Apollo finish second in the Class AAA Shot Put and Jordan White of Owensboro Catholic (3rd in Class A Shot Put.)
