2014 South Oldham Boys defeat St. Xavier by the slimmest of margins

(2014 State Meet Link)

I'm sorry St. X guys, but this was one of the most heart pounding finishes I've ever witnessed. The team of Tanner Dowdy, Cole Dowdy, Justin Hanson, Hayden Tinal, and Aidan Skeeters was able to take down the St. Xavier boys who had reigned over the state for 3 straight years. Going into the meet there were more contenders than ever before with St. Xavier, Cooper, South Oldham, and Trinity all showing strong top 7's throughout the season.

As they came into the finish it became clear that it would be between South Oldham and St. Xavier, and as scores were announced it came down to just a single point as St. Xavier was announced for second place at 85pts with South Oldham walking away as 3A Champions with 84pts.

This feat marked the first time a public school had won the 3A boys title since Daviess County all the way back in 2008, and continued the trend of no team ever winning four straight state titles.
