This season was probably one of the more up in the air years. Although Conner seemed to be the early season favorites, I had no clue what to expect other than a veteran squad ready to break the Trinity/St. Xavier streak. Each week trinity continued closing in while Conner lacked significant improvement to stay separated. All year St. Xavier guys, mostly Lincoln Williams, bugged me for sleeping on them and I was way too cocky. I ranked them 3rd in preseason and early in the year stayed all too confident as they struggled extremely hard until Great American where just about their entire roster PR'd and jumped to 1st in team scores based off PR's in the state just a few hours after I ranked them 5th in the mid-season power rankings. The dumb thing is, I knew it was going to happen all along! This is the first line in my 3A team preview article back in July:
"I may be eating my words come November but... 2019 could be a down year for the Tigers"
Although they weren't able to take down their bitter rivals of Trinity for the second year in a row, they absolutely outperformed all expectations I had for them and I am absolutely eating my words.
It's time for me to brag little bit again because here's a rundown of my dark horse contenders in the Boys Season Preview:
