Senior Sendoff: Bethany Bigler - Central Hardin

What was your most memorable meet and why?:

My most memorable meet would have to be conference this year. It's the same course as our scrimmage meet at the very beginning of the season, so it's awesome to see how much everyone improves. For a lot of girls, it was their last meet because of cuts for regions, so it was last time I got to be with my team as a whole.

Where did you face your biggest competition?:

We faced our biggest competition at regions in Green County. Another school was moved into our region this year, so we already knew regions was going to be tough beforehand.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?:

Out of all my high school accomplishments being named a captain stands out the most. I am super passionate about the sport, my team, and my coaches, and it was great to know that it didn't go unnoticed five years later.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?:

If I could do it all over again, something I'd change about my running career would be to not be so hard on myself. I let my mind lead me to injuries and major set backs. I took it seriously, but running is one of those things that you have to give yourself a break from here and there.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?:

The most difficult obstacle I had to overcome was being out with injuries. My sophomore year I had patella, hamstring, and IT band tendinitis all in my right leg. I wasn't allowed to bear weight for eight weeks, and not allowed to jog for four weeks after that. Trying to finish that season with a positive attitude was very hard.

What will you miss the most?:

Out of everything, I will miss my coaches most. Coach Dale and Coach Pennington have become a second set of parents for them. I know they are there for me, and it'll be hard to let that go.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?:

My advice to younger athletes would be to never take it for granted. I loved everyday and would take the good with bad a thousand times over to do it all again. Work hard for what you want because everyone else wants it too.

What are your post-highschool or college plans?:

My post-high school plans are to attend and run for Berea College. I plan to major in Communications, but that changes pretty much everyday!

Who would you like to say thank you to?:

I'd like to give my biggest thank you's to my coaches. Without them, I wouldn't have even set the goals that they made me achieve.
