Athlete Name: Robert Fields
School: Jackson County High School
What was your most memorable meet and why?
My regional meet of my junior year because it was a close race and the top teams runners times were tight. It was just a pure guts race and I managed to beat PR by about 2 minutes.
Where did you face your biggest competition?
The state race. All the best runners are there and its just crazy to see how hard some runners push themselves.
Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?
Our team won three back to back regional titles. Its amazing to experience that and to be able to go to that race those three years with a target on our back and come out with the win.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
I don't think I would change anything except to run more often than I did in the off season.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
I got really sick my senior year and wasn't able to run for most of the off season. I ended gaining about 50lbs during that time and had to train pretty intensive for a few months to get back to running competitively.
What will you miss the most?
All the fun times I had with my teammates and being able to help middle schoolers and younger kids with running.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?
Run all the time, its just like free throws in basketball. If you don't keep running you won't get any better. Always remember education is more important, keep those grades up!
What are your post-highschool or college plans?
I got offered a scholarship to run at Midway University. I plan to study nursing and continue to pursue my running career.
Who would you like to say thank you to?
All my family, friends, and coach that were there for me through it all and continued to push me to be better.
