Athlete Name: Adam Wier
School: Lexington Christian
What was your most memorable meet and why?: My most memorable meet would have to be the State Championship my sophomore year. I ran my best race of the season and got to bring home LCA's first state title in cross country with my older brother, Aaron.
Where did you face your biggest competition?: Racing down in North Carolina at the Wendy's Invitational my junior year had us face off with some of the best teams in the nation. It was incredible going toe to toe with runners of that caliber.
Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and why?: I would say being a central part of two State Championship cross country teams is my biggest accomplishment. All the work my teammates and I put in ended up paying off in the best and most fulfilling way possible.
If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?: I would walk into every practice and race with a determination to get better. I would tell myself that pain is a part of every journey to glory.
What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?: My most difficult obstacle was overcoming my junior year. I took on a heavy schedule and I struggled to find balance for running and studying. All the assignments I had to do caused me to lose sleep and struggle. I'm glad I took the difficult classes because it has prepared me for college but I had to find diligence to get through the year.
What will you miss the most?: Most of all, I am going to miss my teammates. Being able to form a bond with my squad has been my favorite part of running in high school. It is going to be difficult to connect with a new group as closely as I have with my current team.
Do you have any advice for younger athletes?: Cherish your days in high school. Run every race like it's your last. Never quit on a race.
What are your post-highschool or college plans?: I'm hoping to run in college wherever I go. Nothing is certain yet, but I'm very excited to see where the future leads me!
Who would you like to say thank you to?:
To my fellow competitors, thank you for making running a fun, challenging activity. Thank you for motivating me to try my hardest and giving me goals to shoot for.
To my teammates, thank you for fighting side-by-side with me every Saturday morning. You all make me so proud with how you fight in races and I wouldn't be a true runner without you.
To my coaches, thank you for lighting a fire under me to work hard. Thank you for giving me a chance to succeed and a chance to pursue a dream I never would have known I had without you.
To my parents, thank you for getting me to run. Running has evolved from a word to a passion for me. Four years ago, I had never laced running shoes up. Now, I can't imagine life without running. Thank you for your constant love and unrelenting encouragement.
And finally, to my brother, Aaron, thank you for showing me what running means. You showed me running is painful but so worth it. I'm so glad I got to run with you for two years and bring home a State Championship together.
