Capital View Classic: MS Recap

As the high school runners cleared their way off the course, the Middle School team tents were being set up along the start/finish line. Leaving with the high schoolers was the dreary weather of the morning and the sun began to shine down onto the hills of the Archives. Unfortunately, this made these later races much hotter than the earlier ones. Nevertheless, it was an exciting afternoon for races and some seriously fast times were dropped amidst the hills and heat.

Capital View Classic: HS Recap

As a runner, the Archive’s Course is defined by two characteristics. The first is the scenic view of our state’s capitol. The hills overlooking downtown Frankfort provide a perfect backdrop for a cross-country meet. The other characteristic is slightly less pleasant. The course is one of the most difficult in the state and the dramatic hills on the course really show each runner what they are made of when they get to the end of their rope. Cap it all off with the infamous “Death Valley”, a dramatic downhill less than a quarter mile from the finish followed by an equally steep up hill that makes way to the final stretch before the finish. Add to the fun the fact that it rained for most of the day in Frankfort on Friday and the ground was not particularly conducive for hill running. It’s safe to say that it takes as much mental toughness as it does physical endurance to succeed in our state capitol’s most well known meet.

Greater Louisville Classic High School Preview

The Greater Louisville Classic is held on the same course as the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational, but they are two totally different meets each year.  Trinity/Valkyrie brings an intense team battle that is more regionally based (KY, IN, OH) with most of the top Louisville schools in attendance, whereas Greater Louisville brings in more depth from throughout the state of Kentucky giving teams from the far west (Paducah area) a chance to compete against teams from the north and areas right outside of Louisville.

Liz Anderson Building on Breakout Season

Exceeding expectations is nothing new to Liz Anderson.  For the junior cross country runner and her team, the expectations have never been higher. The season has only just begun, but the Commodores are already making headlines, thanks primarily to their remarkable success last fall.

Greater Louisville Classic College Preview

Marshall County Invitational Recap

The last Saturday in September proved to be an excellent day for the Marshall County Invitational. There were few clouds in sight as the sun shone down through the leaves and on the ever present hills that the course has to offer. The hills, someone might suggest, were a common topic of the day. Many conversations throughout the day were filled with the word, which leads many to call the course a trying one.
