Unless there's been a roster addition in the last 3 days, the girls will only be sending 4 teams to State. As of Tuesday, only 9 schools had 5+ athletes entered.
This means that at least three teams ranked in the top-10 this season will not advance to State.
Adding to your analysis, North Oldham's runners have made tremendous progress this season, CAL's Hannah Herd should be battling for one of the top spots after Karas/South contingent, and Mercy is a much stronger team with the addition of Mary Robinson.
So the defending state champion and state course record holder only gets mentioned as "her sister will be her closest competitor"? Wow.

Sorta read it the same way myself...
Something needs to be done with this region. I'm a fan of healthy competition just as much as the next guy, but year-in, year-out too many high quality teams get left at home despite having the ability to win half the other regions. I know there may be some re-shifting next year, and i hope it sees a more balanced shift in regions. Good luck to everyone competing tomorrow!

@BCrumbo
Perhaps, but at least they didn't call her "Gabby's sister".

This problem could have been somewhat avoided before 2010 when Shelby County split into Collins HS and Shelby Co HS, creating two new AA schools. It would have been more equitable to put these two in region 4, which currently has 10 schools, whereas the addition of these two put region 3 at 19 schools. I suspect it will be alleviated next year as some of the larger schools in region 3 (South Oldham, Bullitt East, and some others) will likely move to AAA.

I finished that one up after midnight last night and was short on it. But Gabby is the favorite with Caterina as the chaser, even with a loaded resume.
How tough is our region? Cassey Fischer who has been to state 5 times is ranked 32nd in the region would be no lower than 8th ranked in any other AA region! She would be #1 in Region 7.
