My team's and my travels through the Episcopal Round Table Run this weekend
The Louisiana Tech men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2012 season Saturday as they hosted the annual Mook 4 meet at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston. Competing teams included: Northwestern, Texas Arlington, Grambling, LeTourneau College, Alcorn State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State.
After having their season opener ruined by Hurricane Isaac, the Tulane Cross Country program finally opened their season at the South Alabama Azalea City Classic. Paige Callahan posted her highest career finish with a fourth place showing on the women's course and Mark Manion ran a major personal best to finish 16th overall in the men's race. Southeastern Louisiana and Xavier also made the trek . SLU recorded a 7th place team showing in the men's race; 10th in the women's, while Xavier's men were 8th and the women were 9th.

This weekend will see many of the top teams field full squads. With a later start to the season than in past years, this weekend will be first test for many of the top teams in head to head competition. The headlining meet this weekend will be the Episcopal Round Table Run. Highland Park in Baton Rouge will see the boys #1,2,3,5,6,7,and 8th ranked as well as the girls #2,3,8, and 10th ranked teams toe the line together to determine rights on the field.
In the "Coaching Ideas" section, each Thursday coaches from around the state will offer advice and knowledge for fellow coaches to help foster the strength and depth of the high school running community here in Louisiana.
Northshore area teams in St. Paul's (boys) and Fontainebleau (girls) take top honors this week in the power polls.
With the exception of a few teams that were unaffected by Hurricane Isaac this past weekend, most schools will be opening up their XC seasons on Saturday morning.
