Mid-East Meet of Champions

The Kentucky Track & Cross Country Coaches Association will be sponsoring a team of 12 senior girls and 12 senior boys to compete in the Mid-East Cross Country Championships in Dayton, Ohio, Saturday, November 19. See the website below.

Tony Rowe of Daviess County will coach the boys and Art Sciubba of Greenwood will coach the girls. Find attached a list of the top senior girls and boys. This is a tentative list to start working from. Others may also be considered. There are still three weeks left in the season and anything can happen. The coaches will supply the criteria they will use to select the team shortly. They will select ten plus two alternates. In the information there is an open race (see the website above). We will allow the two alternates to compete in the open race if they are not moved up to the top ten. The open race is open to anyone of any age.
This is a great opportunity for our seniors. Nearly 75 college coaches will be in attendance at the meet. This is the class post season meet of the Midwest featuring teams from Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. A number of Olympians ran in this race while they were in high school. Todd Williams and Bob Kennedy to name a couple. The KTCCCA will provide the rooms at the Marriott, meal expenses and uniforms for the team.
This is a huge undertaking and we appreciate Tony and Art\'s willingness to head the teams. In order for them to do their job, they need commitments from these athletes\' coaches, the athletes\' parents and the athletes themselves. If your athlete\'s name is on this list or you feel that you have a deserving athlete, check with the athlete and their parents to see if they wish to commit to this weekend. Note-athletes must stay for the awards ceremony after the race, no exceptions. There are over 25 on the list I provided. General assumption might be that only the top ten would go. In this day and age, we can\'t assume that. Some of these athletes may already have plans, switched over to basketball or wrestling training for that weekend, have a band or academic or scholarship commitment, etc. Don\'t assume anything. We would like to field a full team of ten and have those two alternates ! as backup in case of a last minute problem. Please contact Tony trowe@daviess.k12.ky.us for the boys and Art asciubba@warren.k12.ky.us for the girls if your athlete(s) will commit to this competition. Tony and Art will make their final selection immediately after the state meet in order to finalize rosters for the sponsors in Dayton. We would like to have everyone meet in northern Kentucky Friday afternoon to proceed on to Dayton. Details on this will be provided later. Let Tony or Art know if there is a possible transportation problem. We would prefer not to have to rent a van if at all possible, but we may have to.
On the website there are motel contacts in the Dayton, Ohio, area for parents, fans and coaches who wish to attend. We have already reserved 10 rooms at the Marriott for the team and coaches.
