Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 27th

Boys’ MS Track Athlete of the Week

Taylor Wright, Grayson County

While the distance performances of David Terkula (North Oldham) and William Mulloy (Sacred Heart Model) were very impressive, it is Wright who earned the athlete of the week award this week. Wright won the 100, 200, and 400-meter dash races at the Larue County MS All-Comers last week, including a new state leader of 25.44 in the 200 meters. His 12.34 for the 100m and 57.74 for the 400m, are nothing to disregard, though, as both are top three performances in the state currently.

Boys’ MS Field Athlete of the Week

Will Latimore, Walton Verona

Latimore won both the high jump and the long jump at the Walton-Verona Middle School Relays. His high jump clearance of 5-2 is a new state leader among middle school athletes. The 15-5 leap in the long jump places Latimore seventh in the state currently.

Girls’ MS Track Athlete of the Week

Tiavion Patterson, Warren Central

At the South Warren MS Meet last week, Patterson unleashed a pair of state-leading times in the 100 and 200-meter distances. Her 13.34h was a dominant win over her competition and is the current MS state leader by a full half-second. The performance she followed with in the 200 meters was equally impressive, as Patterson laid down a 28.24h performance to win easily. Patterson, who was the 3rd-place finisher at last year’s KTCCCA MS State Championships 100 meter dash, was also a leg on the new state-leading 400-meter relay for Warren Central, as the group posted a 56.54h performance.

Girls’ MS Field Athlete of the Week

Hannah Ashley, Grayson County

Ashley won both the shot put and discus at the Larue County MS All-Comers last weekend. Her 76-1 performance in the discus is the best performance thus far in the young outdoor season, while the shot put performance is challenging for that same position. The 29-6 put has Ashley sitting 2nd in the state at this point in the year and if her previous performances are any indicator, then she is only getting warmed up.

Boys’ HS Track Athlete of the Week

Andrew Stewart, North Hardin

It’s impossible to ignore Stewart this week, as he was just unreal at Lenny Lyles. His 4:22 win in the 1600 meters and his 9:41 win in the 3200 are both current state leaders (though we have heard rumblings of a pretty impressive 3200 meter race at OC this weekend.) Top that off with his contributions in North Hardin’s relay wins in the 1600 and 3200-meter relays, also both state leaders, then it is clear that Stewart was head-and-shoulders above the rest this weekend.

Boys’ HS Field Athlete of the Week

Isaac Bowling, Oldham County

Bowling, who surfaced indoors after moving into the Oldham County district this school year, had another impressive showing this weekend at the Oldham County Kickoff Classic. Throws of 56-3 and 164-1 only built upon the surprise showing from the indoor season as Bowling claimed both throws events over standout Trevor Troutman (159-3). Both performances are new state leaders and may mark a new favorite this year in both throws events.

Girls’ HS Track Athlete of the Week

Alisha Adair, Western Hills

Adair pulled double duty last week, dominating both the Shelby County All-Comers and the Wolverine Open with her sprint prowess. Her 100 meter win at Shelby County is a strong state leader and the 12.48 performance isn’t far off her personal best. That’s not to say that the other performances weren’t worth noting, as her 200 and 400 meter wins at the Wolverine Open are both state leaders as well (26.32 and 59.52).

Girls’ HS Field Athlete of the Week

Cha’ Niquia Gore, Central

Gore took the high jump and triple jump titles at the Lenny Lyles Invitational last weekend. Her 5-0 clearance in the high jump places her #2 in the state currently and the leader among Class AA athletes. Her 33-0 leap to victory in the triple jump places her second in the state in the triple jump as well, and, again, as the leader in Class AA.
