Why You Should Run Cross Country?

Cross Country is the greatest sport in the world for athletes and parents alike.  Here are some reasons you should join, or encourage your student to join, Cross Country ASAP.  Spread the word!!!!!!!

#1 Get Fit - Running is great for your body and everyone gets to go at their own pace in a sense.  In general, not everyone can run the same distance or time, especially if you are just starting out.  You get to build up your stamina over time and see clearly how much better you are doing.  Two weeks ago, you ran 2 miles in 22 minutes, this week it only took you 19 minutes. Next month set a goal of 16 minutes.

#2 Everyone Gets to Participate - Most meets have multiple races allowing everyone on the team to race.  You aren't sitting there and watching your teammates play a game while you cheer.  You get to be in on the action at practice and on meet days.

#3 Building Relationships with Teammates - You are not going to be sitting at practice listening to a coach give instructions, you are running with your teammates.  Longs runs and easy runs are usually done at a conversational pace, allowing countless minutes of talking and getting to know each other weekly.

#4 Cross Country Meets are POSITIVE ENERGY ONLY Events - Runners, coaches, and parents cheer everyone on and root for each other.  Unlike some sports, no one is yelling hateful things at athletes or officials.  First time XC parents are always amazed at how positive and encouraging meets are.

#5 It is Clear Who Gets to Run the Post-Season - The race results speak for themselves and there are no accusations of favoritism with "playing time."  The post-season where only 7 runners participate should be pretty clear based on the season results.

Seriously, if you are looking for a sport that is rewarding and worth every minute of your time this is the one for you.  It is not too late to join at most schools! Contact your school's coach ASAP and start your journey right now!
