KY Boys Performance of the Week (4/21-4/27)

KY Performance of the Week (04/21-04/27)

After a storm rained out most of the meets last week, Kentucky hosted a ton of track meets this weekend. In those meets, we saw some incredible performances including some from out of the state. Without further delay, here are the candidates for performer of the week.

To begin this list, we will start with an honorable mention.

Jackson Gray, Woodford County - 16-0 Pole Vault, 1st place and Penn Relays

What more can be said about this guy, Gray has been dominant this outdoor season. He's been a candidate for performer of the week in almost every poll. That likely won't end as he quests for another State Championship in 4 weeks.

Now to the list:

Lafayette High School, Penn Relays

For the first time ever, a school gets a notice. Lafayette High School took a team of 4 athletes to the famed Penn Relays. To start the meet, the boys contested the 4x800 (Andrew Grace, Xavier Richardson, Buzz Christensen, and Van Weimer), becoming the first KY school in history to compete in the event. They placed 18th in the meet running 7:52.67, the fifth fastest mark in KY history. Xavier Richardson followed that up with an 8th place finish in the 1 mile run with a 4:14 performance. Richardson and Weimer will compete on Saturday at the Kentucky Dream Mile

Will Sheets, Covington Catholic

Sheets has been exceptional this season for Covington Catholic. Saturday was no exception. At the Penn Relays, Sheets ran 8:11.60, the fastest mark in KY history over 3000m, placing 2nd in a stacked field. Like Weimer and Richardson, he will also compete at the Dream Mile on Saturday.

Christopher McCarley, Christian County

McCarley threw an impressive 161-3 at the Fast Times at Mayfield High track meet. The mark is 3rd in Kentucky this season.

Travis Walters, Bracken County

Walters threw a State leading 68-8 in the Shot put claiming the victory at the Rowan County Invitational.
