KY Boys Performance of the Week (10/28 - 11/3)
We saw some absolutely incredible performances Saturday and want to recognize every single person and team who competed. You guys made this truly an unforgettable season. With that said, we saw some absolutely dominating performances on the Boys side with Lafayette upsetting Trinity, Covington Catholic dominating 2A, and Villa Madonna hanging on in the Class 1A race. We also saw some incredible performances on the individual side as well. To decide the runner of the week this week, we decided to go with each State Champion.
The first nominee is James Gurley. Gurley won the Class 1A State Championship by 11 seconds over his teammate Roman Sierpina running 15:50.
The second nominee is Riku Sugie. Sugie won the Class 2A Championship by 20 seconds in the 4th fastest time ever run at the Horse Park in 15:22. Sugie hasn't lost a State Championship in any event since his Freshman track season.
The third nominee is Paul Van Laningham of Cooper. Laningham won the Class 3A State Championship by 9 seconds in the Horse Park course record 15:19. This was Laningham's first State Championship and he will look to repeat as a Senior next season.
