Cade Flatt showed the nation that Kentucky track and field has the power to compete at a high level. His 1:46.48 800m that he ran at New Balance Outdoor was the fastest 800m run by a high schooler in the 2022 season and just off of the national 800m record. Countless interviews and articles gave Cade a platform to talk about his training, competition, and outlook on the sport. Never before has Kentucky had an athlete in our sport with this much exposure and Cade delivered.

Flatt won two individual state titles with his performance in the 400m and 800m while being an important part of Marshall County's state championship 4x400m and 4x800m relay squads. While his contribution brought 40 points to his team, he also had teammates that complemented his work as well. Will Davis was the 800m runner up and surely used the motivation of having Cade leading the pack to drive a 1-2 punch. While Ben Fiser was getting 16 points with his runner-up finish in the shot put and discus. Rounding out their points were 2 points from Cole Mills at the high jump and making the Marshall County squad state third place.

Cade was a special talent for our state and changed the landscape much like Tretez Kinnaird did when he broke 1:50 in 2012. Flatt had the personality and confidence to back up his work in training and on the track. I feel this article by Cory Mull captures the essence of Cade and his drive to be the best as well as the interview by Mike Garcia below.
