The Fort Knox Eagles accepted the challenge to win a state championship with a small contingent to heart and did it in commanding fashion. Class 1A is inherently different from Class 3A by the size of the schools, however many of the Class 1A teams come in with an army of competitors to take a team title. Fort Knox did things a little differently by gaining 50 of their 71 points with two athletes.
Malik Blunt swept the sprint events (100m, 200m, and 400m) but he was not along on the track in those events. Teammate Tristin Griffin placed third in the 100m and 200m while he was runner-up in the 400m. All three of those races were close and truly showed the power of a strong partnership to accumulate those points.
The Eagles tossed in some points from a sixth place 4x100m relay, third place 4x400m relay, Jason Hemingway's seventh place finish in high jump and triple jump, Lionel Taylor Jr.'s seventh place finish in long jump, and a third place finish from Allston Leggette in the triple jump to get to their 71 points.
