After years of knocking on the door, the Conner Cougars kicked it down in 2021 with a 66 point margin of victory (40 to 106) over St. Xavier. Last year was a culmination of year-after-year of top 5 finishes but 2022 was validation with their 81 point margin of victory (73 to 154) over the Tigers again. What was even more impressive was that in 2021, the top 3 finishers for Conner were seniors (Ryan Hanak, Joseph Impellitteri, and Logan Warth), yet they returned in 2022 in the same commanding form. This time around they were led by two seniors (George Johnson and Drew Moore) and rounded out with a sophomore (Nathan Hopper) and two juniors (Joey Carroll and Warren Johnson).
This all came to fruition after the Cougars were state runner up in 2020, third place in 2019, sixth in 2018, and eleventh in 2017. This team has been on the rise and finally reached the pinnacle. More importantly, looks to be a mainstay with some young talent and obvious program-building leadership.
Below is the video of the 2022 KHSAA State Championship for Conner's second consecutive state title.
