This week’s athletes of the week are from St. Henry High School and Russell High School.
Girls Athlete of the Week
Chinwe Okoro (Russell) – This senior competed at the Boyd County Invitational this past Saturday. She won the Shot Put and the Discus. Her throw of 126-04 in the discus is the best in the state this season. She is currently ranked second in the state in the Shot Put with a toss of 37-09.50. This past summer she won an AAU National Title in the Shot Put. She has signed to continue her career with the University of Louisville.
Boys Athlete of the Week
Gordy Dooley (St. Henry) – This junior won the Bulldog Elite 1600 this past Saturday in a personal best time of 4:22.10. He also finished third in the Elite 800 with a best time of 1:59.44. He is currently leading the state in the 1600, second in the 3200, and fourth in the 800. This season he has set career best in all of these events. Gordy was the Overall Kentucky State Runner of the Year in cross country this past fall.
