Bowling Green, Ky. – Western Kentucky University track and field athlete Matt Taitt was named Sun Belt Conference male field performer of the week Tuesday.
Last weekend in the Carle/Health Alliance Invitational hosted by Illinois, Taitt earned a pair of third-place finishes in the throws to lead the Hilltoppers in the field events. In the shot, the Bowling Green sophomore recorded a put of 52-1.75, while also scoring a toss of 55-6.50 in the weight. Taitt's mark in the weight was the third-best throw in WKU history, moving him ahead of throws coach Craig Morehead on the Hilltoppers' all-time list.
Taitt's performances at Illinois marked the second-consecutive weekend in which he recorded a pair of top-three finishes, as he placed second in the shot and third in the weight at the Middle Tennessee Blue Raider Invitational January 20. Taitt currently holds the league's best throw in the shot put this season and has recorded the SBC's second-best toss of the season in the weight.
