Steve Magness Headlines Speakers at the KTCCCA Coaches Clinic on Jan. 10 in Louisville

The annual KTCCCA Coaches Clinic will be held on January 10, 2015 in Louisville at Trinity High School. There will be 6 Sessions on Saturday over various topics in track and XC with the key distance speaker being Steve Magness. His bio information is listed below:


Steve Magness is the head cross country coach and distance track coach at the University of Houston. He joined the Cougars after spending a year and a half working for the Nike Oregon Project under Alberto Salazar as a coach and scientific advisor with several of their professional runners. During this time, Magness assisted with athletes who came away with gold and silver medals at the 2011 world championships and 2012 Olympic Games in London (Mo Farah/ Galen Rupp). Magness still coaches a handful of professional runners including Jackie Areson, Sara Hall, and Tommy Schmitz.

Prior to working with Nike, Magness coached at the high school level, guiding Klein Oak HS runner Ryan Dohner to a state championship in the 3,200m run, and an 11th place finish at the Nike Cross Country National championships.

In addition to coaching, Magness is one of the top Sport Science minds in the country. He pairs a background in Sport Science with practical experience as a coach.
