The Kentucky High School Athletic Association and Special Olympics Kentucky announced a new partnership in a press conference at the KHSAA headquarters on Monday, unveiling plans to develop unified sports opportunities in Kentucky for intellectually disabled student-athletes.
Despite the consolidation of three schools prior to the 2013-14 academic year, participation across Kentucky rose by 2.4 percent in 2013-14, with nearly 50,000 student-athletes occupying a total of 78,687 roster spots on KHSAA-sponsored sport and sport-activity teams.

On Sunday, November 3, the KHSAA office was made aware of an incident regarding a number assignment at the Class 3A, Region 7 Cross Country meet on Saturday, Nov. 2. The KHSAA office was not aware of the situation at the time it occurred at the competition site.

Beginning in the fall of 2013 the first weekend of November will have a championship feel unlike any other in the Association’s 95-year history. The KHSAA Board of Control approved a measure at its July meeting to create a fall sports weekend of championships as five separate team championships will be decided on the same Saturday.
