Today was another beautiful day for racing in the Northern Kentucky area, sunny clear skies and temperatures in the low 70s.

Last fall, a brand new XC runner in Class A rose to the top and won the Kentucky State Championship.  That runner was Megan Smith from Danville, who happens to be back for her senior year this fall to defend her title.  This is by no means a walk in the park, so let's take a look at who will contend along with her this fall.    

Just in case anyone missed it, the KHSAA passed a new realignment in late July moving 30 schools around to different classes and even a few to new regions.  The bulk of the movement centered around Class AA (lost 25, added 11.) Let's take a look at how those changes actually affect the outlook on the season.

Preview of the Mason County Invitational.

 As I was walking out of my dorm at 7:50 to head north to the Grant County Invitational, I was not anticipating a particularly pleasant day out on the course for myself, or any of the athletes, coaches, or spectators, for that matter. The rain was coming down at a steady pace and by the looks of the puddles forming on the road, had been raining for several hours.

Fitting in with the same pattern of the EG Plummer Invitational the Grant County Invitational looks like it is following in the footsteps of the Ryle Invitational.  The question is how will the ACT affect the attendance of some of the top runners.

It's up to first-year Highlands girls' track and field coach Brian Allessandro to lead the Bluebirds to their fifth straight Class 2A state championship following the resignation of Terry Mayhew, who guided Highlands to four consecutive state titles. (via Cincinnati.com)
