Below is the Top 12 Moments/Races of 2012. This past year was quite arguably the greatest year in XC/Track history for the state. Records were set across the board in track and XC. KYtrackXC.com has sorted through some of the moments/races that really set the state on fire in a sense in 2012.
#5 Gabby Karas Crushes Kentucky State XC Record with 17:44.18.
Collins 8th Grader Gabby Karas was the easy choice to win Class AA this year in XC. But when you watched the race she just kept getting stronger and stronger as the race went on. She went out in 5:25 and came through two miles at 11:14. She finished with a 17:44.18, breaking the Kentucky State Record of 18:11 set by her older sister, Caterina. Kentucky has been running the 5K since the late 1990s and it has been run at two locations at the Kentucky Horse Park. Gabby smoked both of those course records and went sub 18 on a much more rugged Horse Park course.
