Great American KY Video Coverage
The state of Kentucky had a meet quite a meet to remember on Saturday at Great American in North Carolina. Three teams finished in the top seven with multiple individuals finishing in the top 20. This meet further shows how much running has changed in Kentucky over the last few years.
Class AAA #1 Asssumption continued their rampage of winning out of state meets on Saturday. Last week they traveled to the Chicago area and won the Palatine Invitational, this week it was Great American in North Carolina.
They took down #7 Saratoga Springs (NY) in MileSplit's Top 25 88-136. For the third consecutive week Bailey Davis led the group with a 5th place finish with a 17:50. Katherine Receveur was right behind at 17:54 in 7th. Emily Bean and Kenzley Defler stood up big time to boost the team to the win finishing 21st and 29th overall with 18:15 and 18:28. They rounded out their scoring with Kate Crawford in 50th place.
Assumption Head Coach Barry Haworth said about the trip to Great American, "Saratoga Springs and Tatnall are two of the most accomplished girls programs in the country, the kind of programs we all hope to become one day. Our primary goal going into Great American was not to beat those two teams as much as it was to try and run with them and compete well. This time, at the end of the day, we came out ahead. In and of itself, this is a great reminder for our girls – that, on any given day, there are no guarantees in this sport and greatness is there for the taking if you can step up to achieve it. We hoped to see on Saturday where we stood at this point of the season and obviously got some pretty positive feedback. While we’re happy to achieve that success and represent our State well, now it’s back to focusing on the process and hopefully seeing some continued improvement down the road."
Class AAA #2 Bowling Green made the trip as well coming home with a 7th place finish. 8th grader Madisyn Peeples led the team with an 18:56 in 38th place. Ciara Scott was second for the Purples in 43rd place.
