Jimmy Goldson is a junior at Pulaski County High School in Somerset. He was 5th in the 1600m Run in Class AAA this past May at the Kentucky State Track Meet. Last year in cross country he was 17th in Class AAA at the Kentucky State Cross Country Meet as well.

KY: Favorite Race
JG: My favorite race is probably the Tiger Run. It's early in the season and it shows where everybody is at and there are so many runners. It's just a pumped surrounding.
KY: Favorite Course
JG: My favorite course would have to be Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville. The course is just so fast and not very difficult. And the finish stretch is awesome with the crowd screaming and pushing you.
KY: 2012 track brought you a PR in the 1600m (4:27) and 800m (2:00), how is that going to help you going into this fall during XC?
JG: Knowing that I can run a 4:27 mile insures me that I can step up my mile pace during a 5k. And the 2:00 800 makes me more confident at starting my finish earlier in the race.
KY: The core of the Pulaski County team (Class of 2014) has been running together as a group for several years, is this team ready to make the jump to a team in contention at state?
JG: I do believe it's time for our time to start competing for a state title. We are all capable of having 6 runners sub 17 so we have the talent. We just have to put it all together at the state meet.
KY: What do you like to do when you are not running?
JG: When I'm not running I'm usually lifting, playing basketball, riding my dirt bikes, at the lake, etc.
KY: What are your thoughts on traveling around the state of Kentucky in a sense seeking top competition, do you prefer that type of schedule or one sticking closer to Somerset?
JG: I love being out and about. I love over nighters. They are the best.
KY: One thing I do find very interesting about Pulaski County, is the fact that the parents travel as well. Anytime I see Pulaski they have a tent full of adults around. Do you like having the support week in and week out?
JG: Yeah, our parents are always there. And it is really nice. They support us and motivate us. You can't ever have too much of that.
KY: It looks like you have raced dirt bikes in the past in competitions, are they more alike or similar when it comes to racing in a 5K? Why?
JG: Motocross is kind of similar to running because they are both such physically demanding sports.
KY: Is there any type of pressure running at Pulaski County, that has a lot of great tradition on the boys side with some greats (Aaron Payne, David Altmaier, Brian Swail, Steve Cornelius)
JG: Nah, there is not any pressure. It's actually a motivator, going out and trying to beat their times. Steve Cornelius is still around Somerset. He does our local sports section in the news paper so I've talked to him some.
