Kentucky Outdoor Breakthrough Performances: Week of May 4

Kentucky high school track and field athletes recorded several personal bests during competition from May 4-10.

Joseph Lairson (Frankfort) threw 63-4.5 in the shot put at the Class 1A Region 5 meet on May 9, improving from his previous best of 22-5 set in April 2026. The mark ranks #3 in Kentucky and #1 among freshmen, breaking the school record. Lairson placed second among 32 competitors and also set a personal record in the long jump with 20-2, up from 11-0.

Madeline Ault (McCracken County) ran 2:23.29 in the 800 meters at Class 3A Region 1 on May 9, lowering her previous best of 2:31.76. The time ranks #38 in Kentucky and #6 among sophomores. Ault won the race among 18 competitors.
