KYtrackXC.com Athletes of the Week
August 31, 2010
The people have spoken with their votes for the first time ever for these awards. On Monday night, choices for each gender of the Varsity Athletes of the Week were placed on the KYtrackXC.com Discussion Board. The votes are in and the results are below:
Varsity Boys Runner of the Week
Jacob Thomson (Holy Cross) – as a freshman last year, Thomson won the Class A 1600m Kentucky State title. In the first race of his sophomore year he reminded people he was a threat in the 5K as well. He set a new big time personal best while placing 2nd at the Tiger Run on Saturday with a time of 15:21.83 losing by .52 to Jake Wildenmann.
Varsity Girls Runner of the Week
Maddox Patterson (Sayre) – the surprise of the season in 2009 when she crossed the line first to win the Class A Kentucky State title last November as a 7th grader. This 8th grader opened up her season in a 3000 Meter showdown with defending Class AA champion, Jenna Rogers (Christian Academy) and top runner Caterina Karas (Collins.) Patterson rolled covering the distance in 10:19 winning by 32 seconds.
Middle School Boys Runner of the Week
Brady Baker (Cooper) – this eighth grader edged out second place Trenton Fryman by less than a second to win the Boys Middle School Race at Tiger Run. His winning time was 10:11.68 for the 3000 Meter course.
Middle School Girls Runner of the Week
Gabriella Karas (St. Edward’s) – this sixth grader is following in her sister, Caterina’s footsteps as she won the Middle School race at the Tiger Run on Saturday with a time of 11:02 for the 3000 Meter Run. She better second place by 26 seconds for the win.
