This week for our Future Stars we are highlighting the top middle school runners since we will be crowning state champions soon at the KTCCCA Meet of Champions on October 18. Let's highlight a couple of them in our Future Stars series.

Matthew Rodriguez from St. Patrick School was the champion at the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational back in mid-September in what was one of the first 4000m races for middle school athletes. That mark of 13:47.60 has held strong at #10 in the state for middle school 400m races. Last week Matthew ran his second 4K of the season with a 14:05.53 at the Tigersharks Monster Dash (State Tune-Up) which was another top 20 mark for middle school boys. Watch for Rodriguez to be in the top echelon of runners this weekend!
Last week was the highly anticipated Haunted Woods Classic hosted by Oldham County. This race historically is a fun environment, but also produces some great marks. Hayden McIntosh took advantage of that with his first place finish and 13:44.99 time and PR in the 4K. The Louisville Collegiate Middle 8th grader has only run one 4000m race but that one shot placed him #9 in the state. He has a PR in the 3K as well this season with his 10:00.04 at the Flying Raven MS/ES Challenge which is the #2 time in the state for that distance.
