Boys Performer of the Week (03/23 - 03/30)
With March Madness almost over, it's time to start getting focussed on the greatest sport in the world, TRACK SEASON! With ten's of meets in Kentuckiana over any given week, the awesome performances are immeasurable. With that said, we do want to highlighted certain performers who overachieved and delivered some of the best performances we have seen this year.
First for the men, we have Kylen Ware of Paducah Tilghman. Ware and his Paducah Tilghman teammates ran at the Invitational of the South this past weekend. At this meet, Ware competed in at least 3 events and placed in the Top 3 in all of them. He was 3rd in the 100m in 11.11, 2nd in the 200m in 22.51, and 2nd in the 400m with a time of 49.79. While he may not have won a single event, his consistent performances over a variety of distances makes him a candidate for this Performer of the Week.
Next up is Marshall County's Deegan Croley. Croley is a dominating force in the throwing space and Saturday was no exception. At the Invitational of the South, Croley put the state on the notice with a couple of incredible throws! He placed 1st in both the discus and shot put throwing the 3.5 pound disc 169 feet 10 inches and the shot put 55 feet 7 inches. His discuss throw is the best performance in the State so far this season.
Finally, Thomas Nelson's Riku Sugie makes the list. What more can this guy do, he's been the face of Kentucky distance running since 2023 and has broken countless State records in Class 2A. With a history of dominating in marquee races, Sugie dominated the field at the AOC Distance Night. In a time of 4:15.72, Sugie dominated a loaded field that featured 9 athletes who ran under last year's dream standard.
Who do you think deserves Performer of the week?
