KY Boys Runner of the Week (10/07 - 10/11)
Our first nominee is Matthew Whitlock of Oldham County. Whitlock placed 2nd at the Haunted Woods Invitational running 15:27. The 800/1600m specialist showcased his strength as he will try to make a run at the 3A State Championship in November.
Our 2nd nominee is Jake Hanson of Lafayette. The Senior won the Area 6 Championships on Saturday with a time of 15:47. This is a massive improvement from his performance on Wednesday where he ran 16:32 at Lexington's High School City XC Championships. Lafayette is looking strong as we head into the 3A State Championships where a showdown with Trinity and other top contenders (Paul Laurence Dunbar and St. Xavier) awaits.
Our third nominee is Will Sheets of Covington Catholic. Fresh off his 14:44 where we he was not named Runner of the Week, he came back and was victorious at the NKAC/St. Henry Invite where he ran 15:05. Sheets has dominated every runner he's faced so far this season and definitely appears like one of the favorites to bring home the Class 2A State Championship.
Our fourth nominee is Kobey Yates of Marshall County. The Junior won the Nooga at Night Invitational down in Tennessee with an absurd 14:24 3 mile performance. Kentucky doesn't run many 3 miles as our distance of choice is the 5k, however, this performance from Yates is the fastest 3 mile time run in State History and is the equivalent of running 14:56-15:00 for 5k based of VDOT conversions. The Junior seems poised to make a run for the 3A State Championship.
