Greenwell wins KY Performance of the Week (9/16 - 9/21)

Thomas NelsonKY Boys Performance of the Week (9/16 - 9/21)

On an absolutely blazing Saturday in the Bluegrass, KY runners put on an absolute show running incredibly fast times. Let's see which ones make the nominations for performance of the week.

On the boys side of things, the clear race of the year was at the Trinity Valkyrie Inviational where we saw two Kentucky boys break the 15 minute barrier.

The first of those athletes was Lincoln Herald of Grant County. The senior ran a lifetime best of 14:53.60 and notched a victory over Riku Sugie. Herald is undefeated this season and is making a case to be the man to beat in Class 3A this season.

The second athlete who broke the 15 minute barrier was Riku Sugie of Thomas Nelson. Sugie is no stranger to breaking 15 and did so twice a season ago. His performance Saturday was the fastest time in Class 2A and sets the stage for a great duel with Will Sheets as we approach the State meet.

The third athlete who I wanted to mention from the meet was Cooper's Paul Van Laningham. The Junior notched a time of 15:02 which is a massive lifetime best. He was one of the biggest surprises during last track season, so it is awesome to see that translate to the Cross season as well.

The fourth athlete who I want to include is Casey Desilvey of Spencer County. Desilvey was victorious at the Double S Stampede winning in a time of 15:58.

The fifth and final athlete I want to mention is Grant Greenwell of Bethlehem. Greenwell was victorious in the Silver division of the Midwest Catholic School Championship in Ohio this weekend running a 16:10. This is slower than most guys on this list, however, the Cedarville is MUCH slower than the blazing fast Tom Sawyer course making this performance that much more impressive.
