KY Boys Performance of the Week (9/9 - 9/14)
This is the second edition of milesplit runner of the week. Congratulations to Shelby Lamb and Charley Townsend for winning last week. With that said, it is important to note that you CANNOT win twice unless you break a State Record. The nominations reset after the regular season is over meaning that State Performances will be counted for all runners.
With that said, let's get into what happened in KY cross country. We saw Kentucky athletes go across the Nation this week with athletes competing in Ohio, Alabama, Indiana, and many more. This all led to some pretty incredible performances across Kentucky so without further adieu, here are the nominations for KY runner of the week:
The first nominee is Will Sheets of Covington Catholic. The senior took his talents to Ohio running at the Springboro Invitational where he blitzed a very competitive field running 15:03 extending his dominant streak. It is worth noting that Covington Catholic has yet to race in one of Kentucky's premier meets as all eyes begin to point to The Louisville XC Classic in October.
The second nominee is Riku Sugie of Thomas Nelson. The senior went down to the Southern Showcase where he braved the hurricane elements and placed 6th running 15:18.
The third nominee is Grant County's Lincoln Herald. Herald opened his season late, however, he dominated the Grant County Invitational winning by almost 3 minutes and braveing a very difficult course winning in 15:36.
The fourth nominee is Jared Fairbanks of Central Hardin. The senior has been having a break out season breaking the 16 minute barrier in every race this season. At the Barton Marlow CHHS Farigrounds Frenzy, Fairbanks won by 13 seconds running 15:59 at a difficult course. Only one other athlete in history, Brendan Nagle, has ever broken 16 minutes on that course.
