KY Boys Performance of the Week (9/2 - 9/7)
This weekend in Kentucky cross country featured two of the top meets in the State this season with North Oldham hosting Rumble through the Jungle on Saturday and of Course the Diocese of Covington Championships. There were also a couple smaller meets featuring the Southern Harrier Classic and the Mason County Invitational.
How do we sort through these though in terms of who performed the best. Well, the Mason County Invitational and the Southern Harrier Classic are known to be two of the faster meets in the state featuring flat courses coupled with fantastic weather conditions whereas Rumble through the Jungle's course is one of if not the hardest course in the state. Therefore, in choosing performer of the week, we need to combine time with place.
The first boy on our list is Covington Catholic's Will Sheets. Sheets dominated this meet, winning by 1 minute and 15 seconds in a time of 15:26. Sheets also won at the Moeller "Primetime" Invitational two weeks ago.
The second athlete on our list is Charley Townsend of North Oldham. The Senior crushed his home course at Rumble Through the Jungle winning by 4 seconds in 15:55. In his two other meets this season, Townsend finished in second place narrowly losing to Riku Sugie both times. Townsend looks strong and is running very confidently right now.
The third athlete on our ist is Will Gullett of Bluegrass United Home School. The Junior won the Southern Harrier Classic with a time of 16:16 leading Bluegrass United Home School to a dominant 1/2/3 finish at the meet.
The final athlete on our poll is Ed Brannon of Mason County. Brannon won the Mason County Invitational in 16:16, winning by 1.9 seconds.
