Lamb wins Girls Runner of the Week (9/2 - 9/7)

KY Girls Performance of the Week (9/2 - 9/7)

This weekend in Kentucky cross country featured two of the top meets in the State this season with North Oldham hosting Rumble through the Jungle on Saturday and of Course the Diocese of Covington Championships. There were also a couple smaller meets featuring the Southern Harrier Classic and the Mason County Invitational.

How do we sort through these though in terms of who performed the best. Well, the Mason County Invitational and the Southern Harrier Classic are known to be two of the faster meets in the state featuring flat courses coupled with fantastic weather conditions whereas Rumble through the Jungle's course is one of if not the hardest course in the state. Therefore, in choosing performer of the week, we need to combine time with place.

The first girl on our list is Shelby Lamb of Madison Central. Lamb added her second victory of the year Saturday where she won the Southern Harrier Classic in a time of 18:34. That time is also the second fastest time ever run at the meet as well as the fourth fastest time ever run on that course. This performance is even more impressive given the fact that she won by 58 seconds in a dominating performance.

The second girl on our list is Caroline Beiting of Lexington Catholic. Beiting was victorious at the Mason County Invitational where she ran 18:49. This was Beiting's first race of the season and she cruised to victory winning by 23 seconds.

The third girl making the list is Assumption's Mabel George. George finished second at the Rumble through the Jungle (first Kentucky finisher) with a time of 18:50. This is a very impressive time given that this course is very challenging. It was also her debut this season making the time that much more impressive. Look for George and the rest of the Assumption girls to round into form as we approach Championship season.

The final girl making the list is Larue County's Isabella Day. Day was victorious at the Storm Invitational running 19:09, winning by 55 seconds. This was Day's first 5k of the season and she looked dominant. Look for her to carry this momentum into the Class 2A State Championships where she will look to build on her 7th place finish from a season ago.
