The KYtrackXC.com 5K Showdown was held on Saturday morning at Bethlehem High School. The ladies led off the morning with Kaydee Wooldridge (Unattached/Greenwood) winning with an 18:00 for 5K. The boys followed and Joey Carroll (Conner) crossed the line with a 15:12 to claim victory.

The girls' race had a trio go to the front immediately including eventual winner Wooldridge, along with Maddie Strong (Scott) and Chesney McPherson (Barren County.) Strong did the early work leading the first mile with a 5:36. Wooldridge and McPherson stayed close within 1 or 2 seconds. At 10 minutes roughly, Wooldridge took the lead and never looked back. She crossed the 3K mark with a 10:42.91 on the way to the winning time of 18:00.86. Strong ended up 2nd with a 18:19.04 and McPherson was 3rd with a 18:30.29.

The fast heat of the boys race had a long string of runners together early as George Johnson  of Conner took the lead through the mile with a 4:46. Johnson moved along weaving through runners keeping the lead through 3K with a 9:00.80. With one lap to go the win looked like his, but his teammate Joey Carroll threw down a closing lap of 67 seconds to make up the gap taking the lead with 150 meters to go. He crossed the line first with a 15:12.55. Johnson was 2nd with a 15:15.86.  Noah Mathews (Paul Dunbar) was 3rd with a 15:24.37.  Potentially the most impressive stat is that Conner had four boys run sub 15:36 with Drew Moore ky in 4th 15:33.55 and Nathan Hopper in 5th with a 15:35.12.
